Flooding is now impacting roads in western Iowa that lead into Nebraska. Dena Gray-Fisher is a spokesperson for the Iowa Department of Transportation and says several roads and parts of the interstate system north of Council Buffs are slated for closure. Gray-Fisher says a portion of I-680 runs from I-29 near Crescent to the Mormon Bridge will close soon as well as I-29 from Crescent into Council Bluffs.
Gray-Fisher says to the north of the metro area there are more portions of I-29 that they will continue to monitor. She says Highway 30 that leads from Missouri Valley, Iowa to Blair, Nebraska will likely close. I-29 south of the metro to the Missouri border is being monitored carefully and there is water over Highway 2 leading into Nebraska City.
Major flooding from the Missouri River is anticipated to increase over the next week and the Iowa DOT says road closures due to flooding may be in place for an extended period of time.
There are a number of Iowa highway segments that continue to be at higher risk of being closed due to flooding as well.
