Governor Dave Heineman is heading to South Sioux City to watch the Missouri River crest with the release of more water from the Gavins Point Dam. The Army Corps of Engineers stated it would reach maximum water release today of 150-thousand cubic feet per second.
Governor Heineman is among those who feel questions about the release need to be answered. He stated he is skeptical on some of the things the Corps has done but right now his focus is on protecting areas that will be most impacted by the flooding. He stated there will be time for questions another day when this disaster has passed.
Governor Heineman will take a helicopter tour of the South Sioux City area this afternoon.
The Missouri River is more than three feet above the 30-foot flood state in that area. Many in South Sioux City have evacuated.
