A Pennsylvania man is arrested in Lincoln for allegedly bilking a Lincoln liquor store owner out of $10,000.
The suspect is identified as 29-year-old Ernest Witherspoon from Upper Darby, PA.
Lincoln Police Officer Katie Flood says the suspect is accused of walking into the store last month, offering to buy the business.. but first said he needed the liquor store owner’s help to clean the money.
He claimed it had been dyed to get thru customs.
Officer Flood says he was able to convince the business owner to use $10,000 of his own money to dye using chemicals.
The man wound up with wet construction paper wrapped up to look like money.
Officer Flood says the suspect was arrested last night as he tried the scheme on another Lincoln business owner.
Police are looking into a connection with other such scams around the country.
