A “fuel farm” which supplies gasoline to gas stations in Omaha is closed due to flooding. Marty Grate with Omaha Public Works says the suspension of service at the fuel terminal on 11th Street in Omaha should not mean any fuel shortages… just an inconvenience.
The tank farm provides all fuel to Eppley Airfield and about 60% of the transport fuels to the community. Tankers from this facility go out and fill gas stations.
Grate says the closing of this fuel farm is necessary due to flooding. He says if you get too much water in the area, tanks float and spill petroleum.
There are other fuel terminals available to pick up the slack and there is no danger of the metro area running out of gasoline or diesel fuel. The terminal also supplies fuel for Eppley Airfield however they receive their jet fuel through a pipeline, not a tanker.
