Senator Ben Nelson says ethanol supporters were able to defeat this week a bill that would end tax incentives for ethanol producers.
Senator Nelson says the effects would make us more dependent on foreign energy. He says that could be the worse thing to do at this time with all the turmoil in those oil-producing regions around the world.
Nelson and Senator Johanns have both signed onto a bill that would protect those tax incentives, but tie them to the price of oil.
Nelson says the bill would fee the ethanol industry from government subsidies.
