Chris Davis hit two home runs as Round Rock won 8-5 over Omaha Monday night in the last of a four-game series at the Dell Diamond. The Storm Chasers dropped the last three games of the series to slip to 38-33 and had their lead over Memphis in the American Conference North Division trimmed to one-half game after the Redbirds beat Nashville.
Clint Robinson’s two-out RBI double in the first inning gave the Storm Chasers an early lead that didn’t last very long after Davis smashed a solo homer in the bottom of the inning to tie the game. Omaha regained the lead in the fourth when Lorenzo Cain tripled home Robinson and scored on an errant pickoff attempt. Kila Ka’aihue then smacked his second home run in as many days to extend the margin to 4-1.
Storm Chasers starter Mario Santiago had retired nine in a row before Round Rock rallied in the fifth. A leadoff walk and two singles loaded the bases for Robinson Diaz, who launched a grand slam to move the Express in front for the first time. Davis belted his second of the night, a two-run shot, three batters later, to increase the advantage to 7-4 with Round Rock’s 11th round tripper over the final three games of the series.
