Concerns are being raised about a nuclear power plant in eastern Nebraska which is surrounded by water from the flooding Missouri River.
A berm failed on Sunday and now the Fort Calhoun station is inundated, though reports say water has not gotten into any buildings.
Iowa Governor Terry Branstad says he’s been “assured” there is no danger to the public.
“It is surrounded by water, but it is also actually shut down right now anyway for maintenance purposes,” Branstad says, “and they feel very confident that there is no danger involved with it whatsoever.”
The plant is offline for refueling.
