South Carolina is one win away from its second straight CWS championship. The Gamecocks edged Florida 2-1 Monday night in 11 innings in front of 25,851 at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha.
Christian Walker scored the winning run in the top of the 11th racing all the way home from first on a hit and run while the Gators committed a pair of throwing errors.
The Gamecocks also made clutch defensive plays in the 9th and 10th innings. They got out of a bases loaded, no out jam in the 9th without yielding a run. In the 10th leftfielder Jake Williams threw out Cody Dent as he tried to score the winning run from second on a base hit.
South Carolina extended its NCAA Tournament winning streak to 15 games and is 54-14. Florida fell to 53-18.
John Taylor (8-1) earned the win in relief while Matt Price picked up his 19th save. Nick Maronde (0-1) took the loss in relief. South Carolina is expected to start Michael Roth Tuesday night on three days rest. Florida will counter with Karsten Whitson.
