South Carolina won the Colleg World Series championship for the second year in a row Tuesday night with a 5-2 win over Florida in front of a TD Ameritrade record crowd of 26,721.
The Gamecocks swept the two game championship series and extended their NCAA Tournament record winning streak to 16. A three run third inning was all the offense the Gamecocks would need. The pitching trio of Michael Roth, John Taylor and Matt Price made those runs stand up. Roth earned his 14th win pitching into the 8th inning. Price picked up his 20th save. Freshman Karsten Whitson took the loss, his first in nine decisions. South Carolina second baseman Scott Wingo had two RBI and was voted the series most outstanding player.
South Carolina is the 14th program to win multiple national championships and the 6th to win back to back titles. The Gamecocks finish the season at 55-14, the Gators at 53-19.
