Phil Hawke and Jeff Howell each clubbed two-run homers as the Lincoln Saltdogs downed the El Paso Diablos 9-6 to snap their eight-game losing streak. Lincoln jumped out to a 6-2 lead after four innings, and looked like they were pulling away as Howell roped his first home run of the season in the seventh to make it 9-2.
But the Diablos struck for two runs in the eighth, two more in the ninth before Saltdogs closer PJ Zocchi induced a game-ending double play with the potential tying run at the plate to end the game and earn his 12th save.
James Garcia (1-0) pitched well in his Saltdogs debut, going five innings, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out three and walking one to earn the win. Adam Rowe (1-4) went four innings, allowing six runs on six hits to suffer the loss.
Gavin Dickey finished the night 2-for-5 with a stolen base and two runs to extend his hit streak to 19 games, matching a club record.
Hawke went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs and three RBI. Howell finished 2-for-5 with a home run and a double and Jorge Cortes recorded another multi-hit night.
