The Saltdogs weathered an ugly start to the game and went on to drub the Amarillo Sox 10-5 at Haymarket Park Sunday evening. The first 10 pitches of the game from Tim Brown were balls and the Saltdogs committed three errors in the first two innings, giving Amarillo a 3-2 lead.
Lincoln took its first lead in the third on back-to-back RBI doubles from Jorge Cortes and Rafael Alvarez, making it 4-3. The ‘Dogs added two more in the fourth and another on a Jeff Howell solo homer, his fourth, and a Gavin Dickey run-scoring single. Brown (6-6) settled down to throw six solid innings, allowing two earned on five hits to earn the win. Justin Garcia (6-3) lasted five innings, allowing six runs on 10 hits to suffer the loss.
Amarillo loaded the bases with one out, sending the tying run to the plate in the top of the eighth inning but Santo Luis entered the game from the bullpen and struck out the next two hitters to preserve the 9-5 Saltdogs lead. Dickey, Alvarez and Howell had three hits a piece, five of which went for extra bases in a 15-hit effort for Lincoln.
