Vince Bongiovanni impressed in his Lincoln debut and Jeff Howell remained on his bat-wielding rampage as the Saltdogs downed the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks 8-2 in front of 3,897 fans at Newman Outdoor Field Tuesday night.
Bongiovanni (1-0), who was recently acquired from Lake County and had not pitched in nearly two weeks, tossed six shutout innings, allowing just three hits while striking out five to book the win.
The Saltdogs tallied an unearned run in the second and struck for four more in the third, including three with two outs. Howell finished the game 4-for-5 with a home run, a double and three RBI. The Lincoln backstop now has seven hits the last two games, including two homers and three doubles.
Dan Blewett (0-2) pitched three innings, allowing four earned on four hits to suffer the loss. Jorge Cortes and Joe Ramos each booked multi-hit nights as well.
The Saltdogs came within one out of recording their third shutout of the season before the Redhawks stroked back-to-back RBI doubles in the bottom of the ninth.
