The Saltdogs withstood a furious late-inning comeback effort from the Fort Worth Cats to earn a 13-10 series-opening victory at LaGrave Field Monday night.
Lincoln tallied two in the top of the eighth to built a 13-3 lead before the Cats scored the final seven runs of the contest, including a pair of two-run home runs in the bottom of the ninth.
Fort Worth belted four home runs, all of which came in the final three frames of the contest.
Jino Gonzalez (3-0) pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out six and walking three to earn the win. Aaron Cunningham (2-8) went six innings, allowing six runs on 11 hits to suffer the loss.
Brandon Jones went 3-for-5 with a double, triple, two runs and three RBI.
Vance Albitz and Jorge Cortes each booked three-hit nights as well. Seven of the nine starters had at least two hits as the Saltdogs collected 19 hits on the evening, one shy of their season-high.
