I was flipping through the channels this weekend and saw Arena Football on the NFL Network. I think it was the NFL Network? Anyway, for some reason I flipped in on and watched five minutes of the game. I saw one of the many touchdowns scored and saw Purify on the back of the celebrating player’s jersey and thought I wonder if? And I was right.
Former Husker wide receiver Maurice Purify did land in the AFL. His Georgia Force team was playing Jacksonville in a conference championship game. I found out Purify caught 13 passes for 153 yards and three touchdowns. (Still sounds like good numbers for a 64-55 game) What I didn’t realize is Purify is somewhat of a star.
Purify was named the Arena Football League’s Rookie of the Year and Big Game Breakout Player of the Year. Purify joined the Georgia Force this season after a stint with the NFL’s Cincinnati Bengals. He finished the season with 130 catches for 1,653 yards
