Bubba Starling will not take a snap as quarterback of the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Just five minutes before last night’s 11:01 p.m. deadline, Starling signed a contract with the Kansas City Royals.
The deal will give Starling a $7.5 million signing bonus spread out over three years. It is the largest in Royals history. Starling was the fifth overall pick in June’s draft and the Royals are hoping to make him a home town hero.
The Gardner, KS native is 6-foot-5, 195-pounds. Starling will start his professional career with workouts at the Royals’ Surprise, Ariz., complex, where the Arizona Fall League team is currently winding down its Rookie classification season. However, Starling will not play in games until the start of the Arizona Instructional League.
