When it comes to cyber theft, no one is immune.
Omaha’s Metropolitan Entertainment and Convention Authority oversees the Century Link Center and T-D Ameritrade Ballpark. They recently fell victim to an eastern European cyber theft ring.
Security Expert Brian Krebs reported on his blog that $270-thousand dollars was taken from their account. He says the trouble started last month when an employee opened a booby-trapped email that contained password stealing malware. The thieves were able to get online banking credentials and added at least six people to the payroll and then made a number of fraudulent transfers.
They were able to recover some of the money and MECA is working with the FBI and upped their on-line banking security.
