Husker defensive back Alfonso Dennard has a pulled muscle in his leg and he sat out two-a-day practices on Wednesday, but head coach Bo Pelini does not expect Dennard to miss a considerable amount of time.
“I don’t have a crystal ball. Who knows? It’s a pulled muscle. Everybody responds a little bit differently. He’s doing a lot better than we thought he would be right now. He’s doing better.”
Dennard’s absence is giving NU’s young cornerbacks an opportunity to get more reps. Pelini was pleased with several players, but pointed to Andrew Green, a sophomore from Madison, Texas.
“He’s playing pretty physical right now,” Pelini said. “He gets his hands on people. He still has a lot to learn, but he’s playing pretty good football. I think this gives us an opportunity with Alfonzo out to really evaluate these young corners and I think they are stepping up. They are getting better and they are going to keep getting better with each day. I’m pretty happy with their progress right now.”
