Those attending the Nebraska State Fair in Grand Island will be able to learn more about taking care of your health and receive some important screenings as well. Bill O’Neill is University of Nebraska Medical Center’s Public Relations Interim Director and says they will be at the fair on August 30th and 31st.
UNMC will be at the fair on August 30th and will focus efforts on children and young adults. They will have demonstrations, hands-on activities and costumed characters to help teach younger children about health care. They will also provide information on health care careers to high school students.
On August 31st UNMC will feature a Science Cafe with a cardiologist who will hold a presentation on heart health. They will also offer information about healthier lifestyles, organ donation, cancer prevention and how to take part in clinical trials.
UNMC will also provide free blood pressure and skin cancer checks. They will also distribute free colon cancer kits.
