Americans For Prosperity State Director Mike Friend claimed during a rally in Lincoln that Senator Nelson hasn’t been accessible to the public this interim.
“We’ve had difficulty connecting with our senior senator in the state of Nebraska,” Friend told Nebraska Radio Network. “We don’t think that that’s right. We don’t think that as citizens of Nebraska we should be locked out of those types of conversations.”
Friend acknowledged that Nelson has been visiting various Nebraska cities, but criticized the senator for not holding public forums, especially on health care. AFP has criticized Nelson for providing the crucial vote to approve President Obama’s health care overhaul.
AFP held a rally at Antelope Park during the lunch hour Tuesday as Nelson spoke to the Downtown Rotary Club a little over a mile away.
We caught up with Nelson during his visit to the Madonna Rehabilitation Hospital in Lincoln later that afternoon.
“That kind of a question about where am I; what they need to do is take a look at the media schedule, they’ll see,” Nelson said in an interview with Nebraska Radio Network. “They can call our office. We’re available.”
Nelson said that while he hasn’t held public forums, he has been meeting with the public throughout Nebraska this month. He added that he comes home nearly every weekend even when Congress is in session.
