Soccer America put Creighton men’s soccer players Ethan Finlay and Tyler Polak on its preseason All-America list released Tuesday. The pair of Bluejays have previously been named preseason All-Americans by College Soccer News, voted to the preseason all-Missouri Valley Conference team and listed on the MAC Hermann Trophy Preseason Watch List.
Finlay and Polak are among the 25 men named to the preseason All-America team by Soccer America, and Creighton is joined by Akron, Connecticut, Duke, North Carolina and Notre Dame with two players on the preseason team.
Finlay, the 2010 MVC Player of the Year, led the MVC and ranked in the NCAA top-10 with 15 goals and 34 points scored last year. The forward from Marshfield, Wis., was named the inaugural Creighton Male Athlete of the Year as a junior, when he was an NSCAA Second-Team All-American and MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist. The senior begins his final season at Creighton tied for sixth in school history with 29 career goals, 14 of which have served as game-winners.
Polak was the 2010 MVC Freshman of the Year, earning All-Freshman Team notice from CollegeSoccerNews.com, TopDrawerSoccer.com and Goal.com. The Lincoln, Neb., native started every match as Creighton’s left outside back in 2010 and played more minutes than any Bluejay field player. In addition to his defensive dominance, he added two goals and an assist last year as well.
The Bluejays are ranked in the top-10 of every major soccer preseason poll this season, including sixth in the Soccer America poll. Creighton, which just finished an 0-0-2 exhibition season against two top-12 opponents, opens the regular-season at Denver on Saturday night.
