On Omaha Public School teacher is no longer in his classroom pending an investigation by the district. Spokesperson Luanne Nelson says the incident happened Monday at McMillan Magnet School involving two students. She states a police report was filed and a staff member knew about the incident and an internal investigation is underway.
Police reports show science teacher, 39 year old Patrick Kocsis was cited for two counts of misdemeanor child neglect and the incident was reported on the school’s security camera.
The students involved are 13 and 14 year old boys and the two were arguing. One of the boys stated both teens were told to leave the classroom and assumed they were headed to the principal’s office when the teacher told them to go outside and duke it out.
The student says he and the other teen slapped each other around for about 20 minutes and asked if they could go back inside but were told to continue. Neither of the boys was hurt and the district reports both have been punished. Kocsis is suspended pending the district’s investigation.
