Pat Trettel had three doubles and the Saltdogs got more terrific pitching as they beat the Sioux City Explorers 6-2 Sunday night, despite learning the night before their playoff hopes ended after a win by division leading Wichita.
Trettel’s second double came in the fourth inning, scoring Rafael Alvarez to make it 2-0 and a two-run double down the left field line in the sixth inning gavie Lincoln a 4-0 advantage. Trettel finished the evening 3-for-4 with three doubles and three RBI.
Alex Maestri (8-6) pitched six innings, allowing two runs on four hits to earn the win. Garrett Sherrill and Santo Luis combined to work two perfect middle innings and Nick Schreiber closed out the contest with two strikeouts in a scoreless ninth.
