They did it! It was relatively anti-climatic, but the Omaha Storm Chasers have clinched their division and guaranteed their first playoff birth since 1999 by pounding their first round playoff opponent Round Rock 12-2.
Then they had to wait for Memphis to finish their game with Albuquerque before popping the champagne. The Isotopes lead 2-0 most of the way, but Memphis tied it in the bottom of the 8th, forcing extras, before falling 3-2 in eleven innings.
The team was following the game online shouting how many outs were left the whole time.
PCL Pitcher of the Year winner, Luis Mendoza, had a shaky start allowing two runs before recording an out, but he settled in, picking up another W. Lorenzo Cain went 5-5, and Jarrod Dyson hit a homner.
There was no power in Omaha’s lineup today. Clint Robinson and Kila Ka’ihue sat out with injuries. Kila will be out a few days, Clint could be more. Fingers are crossed he’s ready for the playoffs.
