15th ranked Colorado State played in front of a record-setting crowd at Moby Arena on Friday night, and came back to stun the 5th ranked Huskers 3-2 (25-12, 25-11, 16-25, 20-25, 9-15).
Gina Mancuso led the Huskers with 24 kills on 41 attempts, totaling a hitting percentage of .341. Hannah Werth had 12 kills, while Brooke Delano had 10 of her own. Lauren Cook totaled 49 assists, while Werth had 15 digs on the night. The Huskers and Rams each had a team hitting percentage of .212.
NU took the first two sets 25-12 and 25-11, but CSU mounted a big comeback. The Rams won the third set 25-16 and were 16-12 in the fourth, when NU rallied to grab a 17-16, only to lose 25-20. In the final set, the Rams opened up a close start jumping out to a 12-8 lead and ending the match with a 15-9 fifth set win.
The Huskers return home next weekend to host the Player’s Challenge at the Coliseum. Nebraska will take on Creighton on Thursday, Sept. 8 at 7 p.m., then host St. Mary’s on Friday, Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. at the Coliseum and close the weekend against Weber State on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 2 p.m.
