There are more problems for Omaha Public Power District’s Ft. Calhoun Nuclear Power Plant. OPPD received their mid-year performance report today from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and it shows the plant will receive additional oversight over the next year. This comes as the plant emerges from safely withstanding the longest duration of flooding of any nuclear power plant in U-S history.
The violation referred to a contractor in the plant’s control system that failed during testing, even though there were several back-ups in place. That issue has been taken care of.
The other finding is pending but revolves around flood procedures.
OPPD stresses none of the problems noted by the NRC represented a threat to public safety. They will now submit a plan of improvement.
