Two Omaha police officers are on paid administrative leave until an internal investigation is complete. The officers were involved in the forceful arrest of a man on May 29th that was caught on video at Creighton University Medical Center. Omaha Police Chief Alex Hayes says there are a lot of details to sort through. The department has 100 days from the date of the incident to make a decision on discipline and then what steps to take from there. That could range from minor training issues to the termination of an employee. Chief Hayes hopes to have the investigation wrapped up in a couple of weeks.
Omaha police say they were called to the Medical Center to assist after a man refused to leave. On the video you can see police taking 35 year old Robert Wagner to the ground. Police say this was done when Wagner punched an officer in the head. The video also apparently shows one officer kicking him while on the ground.
Wagner filed a formal complaint in what he describes as “a Rodney King style beating’ today (Tuesday).
This is the last day he could have filed that complaint.
