After suffering a foot injury a year ago that cost him the first five games of the season, Nebraska linebacker Will Compton feared the worst when he injured the same foot in the season opener. Defensive coordinator Carl Pelini says it’s the type of injury that Compton can’t do anymore harm to and there’s a very good chance Compton will be on the field this Saturday against Fresno State.
As far as Fresno State, their quarterback is a name you’re familiar with. Redshirt sophomore Derek Carr is the younger brother of NFL quarterback David Carr. Last week in the Bulldogs loss at Cal, Carr completed 21 of his 33 pass attempts for 142 yards and a touchdown. Pelini is impressed with Carr’s size and arm strength.
He likes to throw, but if NU puts pressure on him, he can take off and run. He set team records for quarterbacks in the shuttle run and 40 yard dash. This will be a tall order for Carr and the Bulldogs. They are looking to become the first WAC-member school since 1975 to beat Nebraska and just the second ever.
