Fifty-five middle school students and two adults were on a Fremont Public School bus this morning when it was rear-ended by a van this morning along Highway 30/275. District Superintendent Dr. Steve Sexton says the bus had stopped at the Fremont Elkhorn Valley Railroad tracks around 8:00 this morning when it was hit. Nine students were taken to the Fremont Area Medical Center and were treated and released. The others, including the bus driver and a teacher’s aid, were taken to the Prairie Fields Medical clinic to be evaluated.
The Jaws of Life were used to free the van driver from the wreckage and that person was airlifted to an Omaha hospital.
Paramedics and firefighters from Fremont, Nickerson, Arlington and the Fremont Rural Fire Department responded to the accident.
