Iowa D-O-T wants to get traffic moving again on I-680 east of the Mormon Bridge. The stretch of road was completely destroyed Missouri River flooding. D-O-T spokesperson Dena Gray-Fisher says they are giving this roadway priority due to the amount of damage and have an accelerated plan in place to hopefully get the roadway open yet this year.
D-O-T reports contractors will be using the original design to reconstruct the road. Gray-Fisher says this will not be an easy task as all the damaged concrete will have to be removed and then start from scratch. The roadway is totally destroyed.
Iowa D-O-T is holding an emergency bid letting for September 21st. This will be a very aggressive schedule and there are incentives included to get the work done as quickly as possible. Meetings with contractors will be held yet this week.
Gray-Fisher also gives us an update on I-29 north of Council Bluffs. The last segment of pavement emerged from the flood water on Tuesday. Crews continue to remove debris from I-29 and now will be able to get a good look at the repairs that will need to be made.
