As the days get shorter, the rising and setting of the sun comes at the busiest time of the day for motorists. Nebraska State Trooper Keith Bell says the evening drive time is hectic enough without adding sun glare to the mix. He says while it is important to keep all car windows clean, polishing up the dashboard can cause more problems. There can be glare from the dashboard itself and the oils in the products can develop a film on the windshield making it even more difficult to see.
Trooper Bell says use defensive driving tactics and make sure you allow extra distance from other vehicles and slow down.
Statistics show the worst time for accidents is from 7 to 9 in the mornings and from 5 to 8 in the evenings. There is a 21-percent increase in the number of fender benders during those hours.
