For the first time since 1995, the Huskers have scored 40 or more points in their first three games and we saw the offense at their best in Saturday’s 51-38 win over Washington. A season’s best 309 yards on the ground with 120 coming from junior Rex Burkhead who carried the ball a career high 22 times. In all the Huskers finished with 464 yards of total offense.
We have to talk conference realignment again, because when one conference is affected, it tends to have a ripple effect. Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delaney has stated the conference is happy with 12 teams, but just yesterday the ACC accepted Syracuse and Pitt giving them 14 members with the willingness to move to 16. Texas and Oklahoma officials are meeting separately today to decide if they want to take Texas Tech and Oklahoma State with them to make 16 teams in the Pac 10. Texas A & M will be accepted by the SEC and rumors have it West Virginia could leave the Big East to be the 14th team in the SEC. So, does it make sense for the Big Ten to look to add since more school with the Big 12 on the verge of falling apart and teams getting plucked from the Big East? A couple of scenarios I could see working for the Big Ten if they wanted to get to 16 teams. Invite Missouri, Kansas and K-State, along with a team like Rutgers from the Big East. I know if Commissioner Delaney had his way, he would see a scenario with Notre Dame coming to the conference.
