Several thousand pounds of scrap copper have been stolen from a southeast Nebraska metal recycling company.
Beatrice Police Investigator Erin Byrne reports between 5,000 to 6,000 pounds of scrap copper and several catalytic converters have been stolen from the Beatrice Scrap Processing Company.
Byrne says scrap copper has become a hot item.
“People are really discovering that copper is worth some money and we have a lot of people out there stealing out of scrap yards, housing projects,” according to Byrne.
Byrne says the thieves also took several catalytic converters.
