Gina Mancuso had 22 kills and Morgan Broekhuis 12 to lead No. 10 Nebraska to a 25-18, 25-16, 23-25, 19-25, 15-10 victory over No. 5 Penn State on Wednesday in the Huskers’ first Big Ten match. No. 5 Penn State is the highest-ranked team NU has beaten at the Coliseum since No. 3 Texas in 2008.
NU jumped out to a two sets to none lead and were up 12-5 in the third, but Penn State battled back to take the set and the fourth to force a fifth set to 15.
Mancuso and Broekhuis led the charge. NU went ahead 4-1 early in the set. Penn State would not go down without a fight cut the lead to 11-8 in favor of NU. Nebraska got a kill by Mancuso to make it 14-9. Penn State would only score one more point and Nebraska would take the set 15-10 on a kill by Broekhuis. With the fifth-set victory, NU won the match 3-2, giving the Huskers their first Big Ten Conference victory.
