The University of Nebraska – Omaha basketball team has a new home. A new arena is being built in Ralston and Mayor Don Groesser says the facility will be just the right size to support their needs.
Groesser says the 4,000 seat arena will not compete with the Civic Auditorium or the Century Link Center in Omaha or the Mid America Center in Council Bluffs but will serve a purpose. Along with UNO Basketball, the Omaha Lancer Hockey Team will be calling the new arena home. There will be room for two sheets of ice at the facility and will offer public ice skating.
The city is hopeful the venue will be used for many other purposes including weddings, concerts and indoor festivals.
The arena is located on the former Lakeview Golf Course near 72nd and Q Streets. It will open for business next in about a year.
