Nebraskans outside of Omaha who visit the city are often taken aback by the amount of graffiti littering buildings, signs and even trash dumpsters. Omaha City Council Vice-President Gary Gernandt is heading up the second phase of the citywide graffiti survey on Saturday. Volunteers have been jotting down where graffiti has appeared and it is in every part of the city.
On Saturday, volunteers will meet to turn over the information they have gathered to city officials. That information will be tallied and a plan of action will then be put into place. Omaha’s Public Works Department will then make up work orders for the graffiti van and work will begin on removing the unsightly markings.
Gernandt says as of today, there are an estimated 400 to 500 clean up sites on record.
