Football fans consider the bye week an off week, but in some respects for the players and the coaches, more work is involved in the off week and the players don’t have the reward of going out and playing on Saturday.
From the coaches standpoint, not only do they take a peek ahead to Minnesota on the 21st, but Bo Pelini said on his radio show last night that they are even doing some pre scouting of other upcoming opponents though he didn’t name the other teams. Recruting is another big part of the off week for the coaches. Pelini said they were out on the road Monday and Tuesday and about of his staff will be out a high school games tonight.
On top of that the coaches were then able to look at their own team the last couple of days, holding practices on Wednesday and Thursday. The two practices this week focused more on building fundamentals. Today will be a pretty hard conditioning day. The players will get Saturday off, then game week preparations begin for Minnesota.
Pelini on his radio show made his first public comments at Jared Crick, said he just felt awful for Jared knowing this was not the way he wanted to end his senior year at Nebraska. Pelini said he told Crick not to hold his head down that he’s got a lot of football left in him and his torn pectoral muscle is one that will heal in plenty of time for the NFL Combine in February.
