A 5-year-old Lincoln girl is in stable condition after being critically stabbed multiple times over the weekend.
Lincoln Police Officer and Spokeswoman Katie Flood says the youngster was stabbed at her residence Saturday morning in Lincoln.
Officer Flood says 17-year-old Parris Wells, a friend of the family, was visiting the residence when he retrieved a knife from the kitchen. She says the teen entered the bedroom, where several girls were playing, and stabbed the victim multiple times in the chest and the back.
Police say the child is expected to survive.
Officer Flood says they do not know what prompted the attack. She adds the teen suffers from a traumatic brain injury that affects his cognitive function.
Wells was lodged at the Youth Detention Center for first degree assault and use of a weapon to commit a felony.
