The sixth-ranked Creighton men’s soccer team avoided the first 0-2 Missouri Valley Conference start in school history by notching a 1-0 win over Bradley on a cold, wet Wednesday night at Shea Stadium. Andrew Ribeiro’s first-half goal proved enough as the Bluejays dominated the Braves for their 10th shutout in 14 matches this year.
The victory moves the Bluejays to 12-2-0 on the year and 1-1-0 in MVC play. Creighton, which had dropped its MVC opener at Missouri State last Wednesday, has never started Valley play with consecutive losses. The Braves, ranked 28th by College Soccer News, fall to 9-4-2 on the year and 1-2-0 in conference play.
Ribeiro got the Bluejays on the board in the 35th minute, as he took a feed from Jose Gomez and sent a blast past Bradley goalkeeper Brian Billings for what proved to be the only goal of the night. The goal was Ribeiro’s third of the season, all of which have been game-winners. The win was CU’s sixth 1-0 victory of the year.
