Rex Burkhead carried the load picking up 119 yards on 34 carries with two of his three touchdowns on the ground as 14th ranked Nebraska handed 11th ranked Michigan State their first loss in Big Ten with a 24-3 win at Memorial Stadium, Saturday afternoon in Lincoln.
Michigan State, which had the top defense in the Big Ten, allowed 261 yards of total offense as the Huskers ran the ball 57 times and let Taylor Martinez attempt just 13 passes while completing seven for 81 yards with a TD and a pick. Martinez’ TD pass came late in the third quarter which accounted for a 27 yard score from Burkhead.
The Blackshirts limited the Spartans to 187 total yards. Michigan State scored their three points after the Martinez interception. MSU started at the Huskers 28, but couldn’t get any closer than a 28 yard FG to cut the Huskers lead to 10-3 at the half.
