Following Saturday’s 24-3 win over Michigan State, head coach Bo Pelini and defensive coordinator Carl Pelini awarded 21 Blackshirts Monday, and two went to walk-ons – junior safety Justin Blatchford and senior Lance Thorell.
MSU quarterback Kirk Cousins tried to connect with his favorite receiver, B.J. Cunningham, on the sixth play of the game, but Thorell anticipated the throw and stepped in front of Cunningham, setting up NU’s first score. Great walk on stories for Thorell and Blatchford. The junior Blatchford walked on from Ponca, a town of less than one thousand and Thorell played eight man football in Loomis which has less than 400 people.
