Nebraska’s firearm deer season is underway. Nebraska Game and Parks spokesman Greg Wagner expects a record setter. He expects 70,000 hunters will be out in force and will take over 65,000 deer and that would be a record amount.
Wagner says with that many hunters in the field the biggest concern is safety. He says blaze orange caps and vests are a must. If you are going to be elevated make sure to wear a tree safety harness. He also wants hunters to make sure they know where they are shooting and be sure of their target and background before firing.
Wagner says firearm season brings a big economic perk to smaller towns across the state. He says hunter dollars are turning over in these small communities to buy gas, eat at restaurants and at sporting good stores to buy additional hunting clothing or supplies and ammo.
The firearm season starts Saturday and runs through November 20th.
