Three people died, six suffered injuries in a one-vehicle accident on Interstate 80 near Maxwell this weekend.
The Nebraska State Patrol reports the driver of the 1998 Chrysler minivan eastbound on I-80 lost control Friday afternoon when the tread on the right rear tire separated. The minivan went into the median, rolled several times before coming to rest, partially blocking the westbound passing lane.
There were eight women in the van and one infant male. The driver and the front seat passenger had their seat belts on and stayed in the minivan. The six other women were ejected. The infant was properly restrained and remained in the vehicle.
The patrol reports that Claudia J. Cerda-Hernadez, 25, Albuquerque, NM and Romelia Pacheco, 32, Denver, CO died at the scene. Viridiana Becomo, 23, Denver, CO died from her injuries at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Injuries of the other women and the infant range from critical to non-life threatening. They are being treated at Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte for treatment.
