A Nebraska Christmas tradition continued today. Thousands from across the state visit the Durham Museum in Omaha during the month of December for their annual Christmas at Union Station festivities. Each year, Union Pacific Railroad searches for the perfect Christmas tree to grace the grand hall of the museum. Todd and Mary Illig’s 45 foot blue spruce was removed from their front yard today and will be set up at the museum for their annual holiday celebration.
People from many states visit the Durham Museum during their holiday celebration and the tree is a destination for family photographs.
Along with the beauty of the holidays others come to enjoy and learn about the history of the former Union Station and the 10-thousand passengers that passed through its doors daily in the 1940’s.
