In 2009, 879 people nationally were killed by drunk drivers between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day. In an effort to keep drunk drivers off the road, Mother’s Against Drunk Driving – Nebraska , along with Governor Dave Heineman and First Lady Sally Ganem kicked off the 2011 holiday drunk
driving crackdown this week.
MADD and state officials are asking Nebraska drivers to “Tie One On For Safety” this holiday season and display a red ribbon on their cars in support of law enforcement crackdown efforts. They are also asking drivers to take a pledge to drive safe and sober.
Red ribbons are available at neighborhood Hy-Vee Food Stores.
