The University of Nebraska Medical Center is hosting an open house on Friday for those interested in the field of public health. Dr. Ayman El Mohandes is the Dean of the College of Public Health at the University of Nebraska Medical Center and says they selected two topics to cover with those attending the event.
There will be panel discussions on the HPV vaccine and food safety. The panels will be comprised of experts in each field and will demonstrate how different public health disciplines approach a single public health crisis.
Dr. El Mohandes says examples of public health professions include smoking cessation, nutrition, exercise, disease surveillance, food safety, restaurant safety, working with health departments to social communication, education and social marketing.
Prospective students and others interested in public health will be able to meet with faculty, researchers and current students at UNMC’s College of Public Health. The event is from 9:30 to 3:30 at the Center for Public Health on the UNMC campus, 40th and Dewey Avenue, Omaha.
