Extra Nebraska State Patrol troopers will be out and about this Thanksgiving travel period to make sure drivers are keeping it safe and wearing their seatbelt. State Patrol spokesperson Deb Collins says it is once again “Click It or Ticket” time.
Starting Monday, November 21st through Sunday, November 27th, troopers will put in extra hours enforcing crash causing behaviors to prevent injury and fatalities during the holiday week.
Statistics from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety shows motor vehicle crashes remain the leading cause of death for those 5 to 34 years of age. Those statistics show wearing a seatbelt reduces the likelihood of injury or death in the event of a crash by 50%.
State troopers will concentrate on reducing crash causing behaviors that include speeding, following too closely, impaired or distracted driving and failure to wear a seatbelt. They will be issuing warnings and citations for not wearing seatbelts.
A $15,000 grant from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety will help pay for the additional enforcement.
