Bets are flying between Nebraska and Iowa this week as both teams get ready for Friday’s game. The bet is on in the metro area. Omaha Mayor Jim Suttle and Council Bluffs Mayor Tom Hanafan met on the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge last week to issue a friendly wager.
The losing city will cross the bridge and help build a house for Habitat for Humanity. Mayor Hanafan promised to be a gracious host to Mayor Suttle in Iowa and he is looking forward to supervising his work. Mayor Suttle told Mayor Hanafan he has a hammer ready with his name on it and is confident that “Go Big Red” will end in the winners circle.
While the two mayors had fun with the challenge they both said the main priority is to help a needy family.
