Unbeaten Creighton (4-0) moved up several spots in both the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches poll after beating UAB and Iowa and the Bluejays are ranked 25th this week — the first ranking for a league team since the season-ending poll of 2009-10.
Creighton was ranked 25th in the USA Today Coaches poll, up seven spots from 32nd in last week’s release. The Bluejays garnered 62 points, four more than Mississippi State, for the final spot in the top-25. It’s the first time that Creighton has been ranked in the coaches poll since being tabbed 24th on March 12, 2007. The last team from the MVC to be ranked by the coaches was Northern Iowa, which was 13th in the final USA Today Coaches poll at the conclusion of the 2009-10 campaign.
In the Associated Press poll, Creighton was third among those teams getting votes outside the top-25, as its 48 votes earned it 28th place. Creighton has not been ranked in the top 25 by the Associated Press since being 20th on Nov. 13, 2006. Creighton was last as high as 28th in the AP poll on March 12, 2007, when it was 26th. The Jays had been tied for 33rd in last week’s AP poll.
