Many will be traveling to the Omaha metro area over Thanksgiving to visit family and friends. Holidays mean traditions and along with the turkey and pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving Day are Omaha’s kick off to the holiday season. Vic Gutman is the organizer of the Holiday Lights Festival and on Thanksgiving night thousands will flock to the Gene Leahy Mall area for the lighting ceremony.
Over 40,000 people attend the annual event Thanksgiving night at 6 pm.
Many of the little ones are wondering when Santa is coming to town. He and Mrs. Claus will be at the Durham Museum on South 10th Street in the Old Market area of Omaha on Friday. The Durham’s tree lighting ceremony and other festivities are scheduled on Friday from 4 to 7 pm. Activities include decorating cookies, holiday crafts and visiting Santa and Mrs. “C”. The 43-foot spruce Christmas tree will be lit about 6:20 Friday evening.
