One hundred elementary school kids in Bellevue were treated to a huge shopping trip Monday night and their escorts… police officers and firefighters. Sergeant Larry Lampman with the Bellevue Police Department says it was their annual Christmas Cop program.
The children were given $100 to spend. Fifty-dollars was put aside for clothing and other necessities and the other $50 on gifts, toys, electronics or gifts for family members.
Sergeant Lampman says this program is very good for community relations and hopes to leave a lasting impression on the kids. He wants them to know police officers are not always what they appear to be when seen on the street or on television and programs like this give them a chance to spend one-on-one time with children.
This was the first year Bellevue firefighters joined the Christmas Cop program.
